Working at Lifespace Communities
About, Hiring, and Training
-
A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), also called a "life plan community," offers multiple levels of living and care—independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing—all at one community, so residents can move between levels of care as needs change without relocating. This is distinct from a standalone nursing home (skilled/rehab care only) or hospital (acute, short-term treatment). Lifespace Communities has multiple locations across the U.S. that our team members and residents can call home.
-
Lifespace Communities is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1976, serving nearly 6,000 residents with more than 4,200 team members nationwide. As a nonprofit, we reinvest in our communities, team members and resident programs. Lifespace also has a Foundation, which funds resident emergency assistance and team member scholarships. Several Lifespace communities have also been named among the "Best" by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.
-
Yes! Working in a senior living environment at Lifespace Communities is incredibly rewarding. Our residents chose to live here and we pride ourselves on creating relationships with them, knowing them, and creating personalized experiences for them through every stage in this chapter of their lives. We are here to empower our residents to live a fulfilling life and being able to do that for them is truly a special and rewarding feeling that our team members experience every day.
-
Lifespace Communities operates 16 senior living communities across seven states: Florida (Delray Beach, Juno Beach, Orlando), Texas (Dallas, Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Tyler), Illinois (Lombard, Downers Grove, Geneva), Kansas (Prairie Village), Minnesota (Bloomington), Pennsylvania (Upper Saint Clair), and Wisconsin (Mequon).

Our selection process varies depending on the role, but our goal is to make the experience welcoming, efficient, and informative while giving you the opportunity to get to know Lifespace and the people you may work alongside.
For positions that work most closely with our residents, the process typically includes an onsite interview with the hiring team, and we strive to make hiring decisions quickly. We know great candidates have choices, and we want to keep the process moving.
For department leaders, supervisors, managers, and other leadership or specialized positions, the selection process may take a little longer and typically includes multiple conversations with key leaders and team members. These interviews allow us to explore your experience and leadership approach while giving you a deeper understanding of the role, our culture, and the team.
-
Yes. All positions at Lifespace Communities require a background check as part of the pre-employment process.
Additional screening requirements may vary based on the position, community, and state or local regulations. Depending on the role and location, these requirements may include fingerprinting, drug screening, a physical or health screening, vaccinations, or other state-mandated requirements.
Because Lifespace operates communities across multiple states, we follow all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulatory requirements. Your recruiter or hiring team will explain the specific pre-employment requirements for your position and location as you move through the hiring process.
-
On your first day, you'll go through a one-day orientation led by a live facilitator. You'll learn about Lifespace's mission, values, and how we do things, plus get introduced to your community and the residents you'll be working with.
You will also get access to Learner Mobile, our mobile learning app, and earn your Orientation Certification. From there, you'll move into training built for your specific role—a mix of online courses, videos, and shadowing someone who's already doing the job—this ensures you’ll feel confident providing best-in-class experiences for our residents in line with our service model.
Benefits
-
Lifespace Communities proudly offers health, wellbeing, and work/life balance benefits to give you the support and balance you need. Some of the benefits we offer include medical coverage through UnitedHealthcare, vision through EyeMed, and dental through Delta Dental (including a cleaning every six months, covered at 100%). We also have a paid referral program, paid time off and holidays, and our Footprints program which allows full-time team members 8 paid volunteer hours per year.
-
Lifespace offers full-time and part-time roles, and part-time team members are eligible for some benefits—both full-time and part-time staff can participate in the 403(b) plan, and part-time team members also receive 4 paid volunteer hours per year through the Footprints program (vs. 8 for full-time). We offer PRN for specific positions. Our PRN team members are not eligible for benefits.
-
Yes. Full-time and part-time team members are eligible for the 403(b) plan, and Lifespace matches 50% of contributions up to the first 6% of pay.
-
New full-time team members receive 7 paid holidays each year—New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas—along with a competitive PTO package.
Because our communities serve residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, we always need team members onsite to provide the exceptional service, care, and experiences our residents count on. For our hourly community team members, holiday schedules rotate among team members, helping ensure our residents are supported while providing a fair approach to holiday coverage across the team.
PTO provides additional flexibility for team members to take time away to rest, recharge, spend time with family, travel, or take care of personal needs. Specific PTO eligibility and accrual may vary based on position, employment status, and length of service.
-
Yes, 35% of new hires at Lifespace come through referrals. Our referral program offers you $500 for referring a candidate hired full-time and $250 for a part-time hire.
Culture
-
Lifespace's culture is built around our five core values: Thrive Through Teamwork, Deliver Personalized Experiences, Own It, Be Excellent, and Learn and Grow. That means greeting people by name, recognizing each other’s accomplishments, proactively supporting anyone that needs it, and coming to work with a good attitude—it’s our job to bring joy and fun!
-
Our team members really enjoy the meaningful connections they make with the residents, and we pride ourselves on the amazing communities our team members continuously help create. Team members also speak highly of embracing each other's differences—everyone is encouraged to use their individuality to deliver personalized experiences to each other and our residents.
-
Giving back is an important part of the Lifespace culture. Through our Footprints program, full-time team members receive 8 paid volunteer hours each year, and part-time team members receive 4 paid volunteer hours to support causes that are meaningful to them.
Our Support Center and communities also come together throughout the year to make a difference in the places where we live and work. Team members participate in community events and charitable initiatives such as Alzheimer’s awareness and fundraising walks, adopting families and providing gifts during the holidays, and sending care packages, gifts, and holiday cards to deployed members of the military, along with other local service projects.
-
Through our "Lifespace Listens" feedback surveys, action plans for improvement, and ongoing engagement surveys, built into the team member journey.
-
At Lifespace, Thrive Through Teamwork is one of our core values and it’s fundamental to how we serve our residents. Delivering personalized experiences and exceptional service requires every department to work together toward a shared goal.
From dining, nursing and resident services to sales, operations, human resources and our Support Center teams, collaboration across functions helps ensure our residents receive a seamless, high-quality experience. Team members share information, solve challenges together and support one another, recognizing that every role contributes to the resident experience.
Career Growth
-
At Lifespace, we want team members to build careers, not just have jobs. Career development is part of the team member journey through on-the-job learning, leadership development, mentoring, career pathing, and curated development plans designed to help team members prepare for their next opportunity.
We also provide resources and financial support to help team members stay current in their fields and continue growing professionally, including continuing education, licensure support, scholarships, and tuition assistance.
One of the greatest examples of career growth at Lifespace is our own leadership team. Many of our leaders began their Lifespace careers in different roles and, through development, mentoring, and new opportunities, have grown into positions where they now lead our communities and our company. Your first role at Lifespace can be the beginning of a much bigger career journey.
-
Absolutely. Promoting from within is where Lifespace excels. We believe some of our best future leaders are already part of our organization, and we are committed to helping team members recognize their potential and prepare for what’s next.
Across Lifespace, you’ll find leaders who started in one role and advanced into positions of increasing responsibility—including team members who are now leading departments, communities, and areas of our company. Through mentoring, curated development plans, leadership development, and opportunities to gain new experiences, we help talented team members build the skills and confidence needed to take the next step.
When our team members grow, Lifespace grows with them and whenever possible, we want our people to have the opportunity to build their next chapter right here.
-
